Cheesesteak Sandwich My Style

IMG_7699acPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania

A cheesesteak sandwich is made from thinly sliced pieces of steak and melted cheese in a long roll. The cheesesteak is one of the favorite foods of Philadelphia. It can be found in most parts of the United States and is called a “Philadelphia” or “Philly Cheesesteak”. Now, when you are a vegetarian or vegan, this sandwich doesn’t work…however, I was delighted to find veggie cheesesteak sandwiches around Philadelphia and they were delicious!  On this one they added mushrooms to the spinach, onions, green peppers & marinara sauce.  The other day I had one with portobello mushrooms on it.  Just take off the cheese and it’s vegan, yummy!

California Pizza Kitchen

I love going to California Pizza Kitchen, so when our son suggested it, I was all in!  There was one in Philadelphia, (they are all over the country) not far from our hotel and we were actually able to walk to it.  Being a vegetarian, I am limited with what I can eat, but there are a few dishes there that I really, really like!

One of my all time favorites is their Quinoa & Arugula Salad.  It contains asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, red onions, toasted pine nuts, feta and of course, quinoa & arugula tossed in their house dressing at Champagne Vinaigrette.

IMG_7739I really like their Roasted Veggie Salad with warm artichoke hearts, asparagus, eggplant, red and yellow peppers, corn and sun-dried tomatoes served over some cool Romaine Lettuce, with avocado and a house-made Dijon Balsamic Vinaigrette.   Yummy!IMG_7741

They have some very good pizzas, one of my favorites is their Wild Mushroom Pizza with shaved Cremini, Shiitake, Portobello and white mushrooms with slivered scallions, cracked black pepper, Romano & Mozzarella Cheese and topped with Parmesan.  We got the extra White Truffle Oil.  This one is to die for!!

…the Veggie Kebab with salad & rice.  All we had to do was put a Kebab on one plate with some rice and some Spinach Pie on the other and we were set.  Absolutely, delicious, we definitely want to go back here again!

Dinner or Breakfast?

IMG_7678Ogden, Utah

We went to our daughter, Jamie’s home for dinner and we had breakfast for dinner, I don’t know that I have ever done that before.  Her husband, Benji, is a great cook, so he made scrambled eggs, hash browns & Hootenanny Annie Pancakes.  I brought the fruit, so it was perfect on the pancakes!  And it was all topped off with a Mango Smoothie!  It really was good, delish!

Blueberry Bavaroise

IMG_7364

Gothenburg, Sweden

At the Restaurant Fiskekrogen we had three desserts and this one was interesting with blueberries, walnuts, white chocolate and lavender ice cream.  The lavender ice cream has an interesting flavor, it was good, but kinda girly, that’s the best way I can describe it.

Crème Brûlée

A Restaurant Fiskekrogen, we also had Crème Brûlée (absolutely delicious) with Walnut Sorbet and it was yummy, too!

Our last night on our trip we decided to go to a nice restaurant in Gothenburg and to splurge and get dessert.  So, we went to Restaurant Fiskekrogen, it was really good, though a bit expensive.  AND, we did get dessert, but not one to share, we got three and shared them.  They are all delish!!  The cream in the tart was wonderful, yes, a nice, yummy dessert!

Welcome May

After having a wonderful evening with friends, we were preparing for bed when we heard fireworks, apparently to welcome in May or maybe they were welcoming the Pacini’s to ‘ROMA’?

My brother-in-law is a pyrotechnical.  It is so fun to go to his children’s wedding receptions, because there are Fire Engine’s there, waiting for the fireworks at the end.  He does a great job!  I took these photos (combined into this one) of some of his fireworks in 2010 of our Independence Day Celebration (July 4th).  I LOVE FIREWORKS!

Meat and Cheese

Brienz, Switzerland

In Switzerland, some years ago, we drove way up on a mountain and the view was gorgeous.  We hadn’t eaten for a while, so we found a fun place to eat and we loved the platter of meat and cheese they brought us.  This is called Walliser Platte which is a typical Swiss lunch.

Yummy Selection

cl1cde-0406-img_6243-60In 2006, my friend Joannie, had this fun idea.  She bought some chocolates and brought over her plate that had chocolate written in French on it and then I took photos of the chocolates on her plate.  We had so much fun doing this and came up with the idea that Chocolate Cards are a Fat Free – Healthy Alternative to real Chocolate!  Now, for those of you who LOVE chocolate, I am sure this is a horrible idea.  Having said all this, I do LOVE chocolate!

Beautiful Carousels

ca1d-0703-binghamton-60Binghamton, New York

From 1919 – 1934 George F. Johnson, a shoe manufacturer, donated six beautiful carousels to the City of Binghamton. George felt carousels should be enjoyed by everyone and insisted that there would never be a charge for a magic ride. While on a trip, visiting our friends Grace and Charlie in 2003, they took use to these 6 carousels, where I had fun taking photographs of them.
