Oystermouth Castle

Swansea, Wales

We went to Swansea where I took photos of a church where some of Craig’s family frequented. There was a sweet elderly lady there who gave us all kinds of information about the church. I had seen a castle not far from the church and I asked her if it would be worth walking to and taking photos of it. She said no because there was very little of it remaining, but she told us to go to Oystermouth Castle and so we did. It sat on a beautiful hill over looking Swansea and there, on the top, I RELAXED at the castle!

Bristol Cathedral

We spent the day in Bath and then returned to Bristol where we were staying. We had walked over to the Bristol Cathedral (The Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity) in the morning but there were people everywhere. Later, we walked past it on our way to dinner and the grass was covered with trash left by those who had been there in the morning. Now, after dinner, as we walked to our hotel in a heavy rain, the lights were just coming on, the grass was cleaned and the rain refreshed everything.

When we got to the end of this part of the River Avon we had to turn around.  Here there is the beautiful Bathampton Bridge and more waterfalls.  The cruise was wonderful and peaceful!

We took a cruise on the River Avon and we went under the Pulteney Bridge. At the end of our hour journey I asked the captain if I could put my feet up and take a photo. I showed him a previous photo with my feet. He laughed and said, ‘wish you were here’, as a question. I laughed and said, ‘yes, with an added RELAXING on the River Avon’. He was so excited, really cute and so I got this photo!

The Pulteney Bridge was completed in 1774 and crosses the River Avon, here in Bath. It is England’s Ponte Vecchio, except there are stores on both sides. It is a fun area to walk around!

We spent a few days driving around England and Wales taking photos of churches and gravestones where Craig’s family came from.  Here, with the sun rays touching me, I RELAXED with some of his relatives (ancestors).

Relaxing at Hampton Court

We had a wonderful time at Hampton Court today! As you can see the weather was beautiful and the gardens gorgeous, so I had to sit down and RELAX! What a huge massive palace, where King Henry VIII once lived!

The Union Jack or Union Flag of the United Kingdom flies over Hampton Court Palace.  I love to take photos of flags, it’s always my challenge to get the perfect shot as they wave in the wind.  This time, with all the chimney’s, which there are many, it turned out nice!

Chelsea and I were off today to Hampton Court, a royal palace in the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames.  King Henry VIII lived here at one time.  When King William III lived here it took on a massive rebuilding and expansion project and was intended to rival Versailles.  Sir Christopher Wren’s architectural work was so expensive that only half of it was completed.  (I had to throw in Sir Christopher Wren because he is one of my ancestors, my 5th great grandfather I believe.)  It hasn’t been inhabited by royalty since the 18th century.

After a delicious lunch along the River Thames, we went for a little walk and oh how I love swans, this one gracefully floated by!

Cathedral of Notre-Dame

I enjoyed walking around this gorgeous Cathedral. They are cleaning it, so there is a lot of scaffolding. Some parts of it are so clean and others very black! I loved this door!

Gate With No Walls

On our way north, we did a quick stop in Lugano, Switzerland. Our new friend, Tammy Hibbard, took us on a quick & great tour! She took us to the Parco Civico where there is this gate with no walls. It is the gate to Lake Lugano.

Hadrian’s Villa

As we walked thru this part we were walking on tiny marble tiles and they were very, very old, possibily pre-Christ. WOW, imagine!

Castel Sant’Angelo

We decided to take a walk thru Rome. We walked along the Tiber River and saw some beautiful sights! Castel Sant’Angelo was built by the Emperor Hadrian as a tomb for he and his family in 134 AD. His ashes were placed here a year after he died in 138 AD. In later years it became a fortress for Popes. Today it is a museum.

I love the Colosseum, there is just something about it’s history that fascinates me. (No Christians were killed here.) There are always so many people around the Colosseum, and today was no exception, so I went with a photo of the top!

Leaning Tower of Pisa

It’s always fun to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa!  I tried to go up it once, but as you can see there aren’t many railings around the outside edge and when you are on the side that tips down it is a very strange feeling!  I tried, failed, but tried!  My stomach got the best of me!

Zagreb Cathedral

We were disappointed because the street we needed to go down from St. Mark’s Square, was having some work done on it, so we had to find another way. We started looking and found it, happily, it gave us this beautiful view of Zagreb’s Cathedral. It is a beautiful building that was originally completed in 1217.

Church of Mary the Queen

We went on a wonderful tour around Bled Lake. We took a boat (like a Gondola) across to Bled Island and walked up the 90 steps to the Church of Mary the Queen. It is such a beautiful area!
