Hanapepe Swinging Bridge

Hanapepe, Kauai, Hawai’i

When we were on Kauai last year, my sister and her husband found this awesome, quaint swinging bridge in Hanapepe.  It is a foot bridge that crosses over the Hanapepe River and links the old town of Hanapepe to the Hanapepe Valley.  It was originally built in the 1900’s as the only way for locals to cross the river.  In 1992, it was badly damaged by Hurricane Iniki and has since been restored and reinforced. It is used today by farmers and locals who need to cross the river, as well as, curious tourists.

As we drove thru Wyoming we saw this pretty, fun, Red Bridge that appeared out of nowhere.  It really stands out with the greenery around it.

Old North Bridge

Here, on this replica of the Old North Bridge, April 19, 1775, the Revolutionary War began with the ‘Shot Heard Round The World’.  In 2016 we walked across this bridge and felt the reverence of this area that Ralph Waldo Emerson so eloquently put on paper;

‘By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.’

Laie, Oahu, Hawaii

Whenever we go to Oahu we always go to the PCC (Polynesian Cultural Center) if nothing else to support them for the great work they do! They not only share their cultures with us, they give scholarships to the students at Brigham Young University Hawaii, allowing them to work at the PCC and earn money for their education. What a great thing! Now, I haven’t even mentioned the shows, the delicious food and of course, the fantastic night show! We had a grand time!

Denmark

This bridge connects two of the larger islands in Denmark, which is made up of ever 400 islands. We went under this bridge in our ferry journey to Norway. We crossed a similar bridge (longer one) from Sweden to Denmark more than 2 months ago!

Bridge to the Peninsula

Niederkassel, Germany

Here is the walking bridge that takes you over to the peninsula where we walked thru the forest to the River Rhine.  Though this water is apart of the Rhine, the big part of the river, that has river boats on it, is on the other side.  We passed beautiful flowers, swans, other people & had a wonderful time walking thru the forest and along the Rhine!

River Alzette Winding Thru Luxembourg

IMG_5843
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

We had an awesome and beautiful walk thru Luxembourg City. Most of the time we walked along the Alzette, a tributary of the River Moselle. Luxembourg is very picturesque with it’s deep valley, lush greenery and gorgeous gardens!  In this photo I am looking the other direction, thru the arched bridge that has the train tracks on it.

Looking Thru The Train Tracks

IMG_6096

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

Luxembourg City was built in a long narrow valley, with very steep sides, as well on the upper sides, the train crosses the valley on these tall archways.  A fun place to photograph as I look thru the arches.

Tower Bridge

London, England

Tower Bridge is a symbolic icon of London and opened in 1894. The other day with Roby Parisi & Nauvoo Rossato, we walked across it on a much cooler and very cloudy day. So, this day, with no clouds and sunshine, we went for a boat ride along the River Thames and we went under Tower Bridge. The sights of London from the River Thames were awesome! By-the-way, the building on the right that looks like it is tipping, it is, that’s how it was built.

St. Paul’s Cathedral

IMG_4697

London, England

We went on the BEST tour ever of London with our friend Roby Parisi, GRAZIE Roby!! I wanted to go by St. Paul’s Cathedral because one of my great-great-grandfathers (5th, I believe), Sir Christopher Wren, was the architect of this beautiful church. Construction was started in 1675 and it sits on the highest point in London. This was the first cathedral built after King Henry VIII became the head of the Church of England taking it away from the Pope. You can see St. Paul’s across the River Thames with Millennium Bridge, a walking bridge, on the right.

When we got to the end of this part of the River Avon we had to turn around.  Here there is the beautiful Bathampton Bridge and more waterfalls.  The cruise was wonderful and peaceful!

River Avon

IMG_3031

Bath, England

We took a cruise on the River Avon and we went under the Pulteney Bridge. At the end of our hour journey I asked the captain if I could put my feet up and take a photo. I showed him a previous photo with my feet. He laughed and said, ‘wish you were here’, as a question. I laughed and said, ‘yes, with an added RELAXING on the River Avon’. He was so excited, really cute and so I got this photo!

The Pulteney Bridge was completed in 1774 and crosses the River Avon, here in Bath. It is England’s Ponte Vecchio, except there are stores on both sides. It is a fun area to walk around!

Ponte Delle Catene

Bagni di Lucca, Italy

We went to the city that Paola is from, Bagni di Lucca, a very quaint, pretty village nestled in the mountains.  I walked across the Bridge of Chains (Ponte Delle Catene) and there was a chair waiting there for me to RELAX on.  I sat down and waited, soon enough a bike came along, there is nothing like a bike, a bridge and relaxing all together!  😊

Borgo a Mozzano, Italy

Craig’s cousin, Francesco, took us to see his wife, Paola’s, home town. On the way we passed this bridge (Ponte Della Maddalena or Ponte Del Diavolo – “Bridge of Mary Magdalena” or “Devil’s Bridge”), which was on my list to take photos of, so it was perfect! And, the weather and lighting were so good, giving a perfect reflection in the Serchio River!  This bridge was built between 1046-1115 AD.

Cruising on the Vltava River

CruisingVltavaRiverPrague, Czech Republic

We went on a walking tour of Prague, so by the time we arrived at our cruise I was ready to put my feet up and RELAX, as we went along the Vltava River! In the distance you can see Charles Bridge, named for King Charles IV who started it’s construction in 1357, it was completed in the 15th Century.
