While visiting our friends, Marlies & Helmut in 2016, we went for a walk with them along the River Alzette where we went over bridges and up and down paths. It was so fun and beautiful!

Nestled in the Valley

Luxembourg is a unique city, nestled in a long, narrow valley. Some of the city, however, does sit above the valley. These homes rest along the River Alzette, where we had a wonderful walk along the river, over bridges and up and down paths. The greenery and gardens are gorgeous!

European Union & Luxembourg Flags

As we continued our walk along the River Alzette I looked up the valley wall and saw these flags waving in the wind, the European Union Flag and the Luxembourg Flag.

Church Along The River Alzette

As we walked along the River Alzette saw many bridges and churches.  Because of the high walls of the valley, as seen in this photo, you can’t hear the busy sounds of Luxembourg City that is above.

Cascading Waterfalls

We had a wonderful walk with our friends Marlies and Helmut Werner thru the quaint and beautiful streets of Luxembourg. After awhile it was time for a rest, so I put my feet up and RELAXED in front of these beautiful cascading waterfalls.

Venus Flytrap

On our walk around Luxembourg, we went  to the Natural History Museum, there we sat and relaxed for a little bit.  While there I noticed some Venus Flytraps and was looking at them when Marlies came over and explained how they work.  It is quite amazing!!  When an insect or spider crawls onto a leaf and touches one of the tiny hairs, the trap closes and they are then inside and the plant consumes them.  I found on Wikipedia; that only after a second hair is contacted within twenty seconds of the first hair being touched, is the trap triggered, this saves energy on objects that have no nutritional value.  Nature is wonderful!!

River Alzette Winding Thru Luxembourg

We had an awesome and beautiful walk thru Luxembourg City. Most of the time we walked along the Alzette, a tributary of the River Moselle. Luxembourg is very picturesque with it’s deep valley, lush greenery and gorgeous gardens!  In this photo I am looking the other direction, thru the arched bridge that has the train tracks on it.

Luxembourg City was built in a long narrow valley, with very steep sides, as well on the upper sides, the train crosses the valley on these tall archways.  A fun place to photograph as I look thru the arches.

Notre-Dame Cathedral

We had a beautiful view of Luxembourg from our hotel! Here you can see the Cathedral of Luxembourg, Notre-Dame Cathedral. Luxembourg is a beautiful place, very green and peaceful which has beautiful parks and places to walk!
