Shiprock

Shiprock, New Mexico

As we were driving along the freeway I could see this mountain in the distance.  I took photos from the car, even though the lighting wasn’t the best, I hope you can get a feel for it as I did.  It definitely peaked my curiosity because it is a very flat area, except for this rock that sticks up out of the desert.

According to Wikipedia; the name Shiprock gets it’s name from the peak’s resemblance of an enormous 19th-century clipper ship.  It is in the Navajo Nation and plays an important role in their religion, myth, and tradition.  It is located in the center of the area occupied by the Ancient Pueblo People, a prehistoric Native American culture of the Southwest United States often referred to as the Anasazi.

Native American

After spending some time at Four Corners, we went to our next stop to pick up a few goodies for our trip.  Along the wall of the market we stopped at, they had beautiful paintings of Native American’s.  It reminded me that this is Indian country; mainly the Navajo, Hopi, Ute & Zuni tribal nations!

Trees; Rocks

IMG_1376aPetrified Forest, Arizona

I didn’t know what to expect when we went to the petrified forest. What we saw was amazing, there were logs of fallen trees everywhere. Once they stood tall, reaching for the sky, now thousands of millennium later, they lay on the ground having turned into rocks. It is pretty awesome!

Cactus

We walked around the stands where Native Americans where selling beautiful handmade items at Four Corners and along the way I looked at the flowers that were on the cactus.  Cactus are such interesting plants that collect moisture and use it as needed, they also produce awesome flowers!

Bird Flying By

IMG_1364Petrified Forest, Arizona

As I was taking photographs of this petrified log a bird, I think a hummingbird, flew by.  I took a few photos of this log but this is the only one that has the bird in it, so, it must have flown by fast!

Beautiful Colors

We came to some construction on the road and we were at a standstill, so I got out of the car and took photos of this beautiful hill.  I loved the colors, the contrast of the greens, oranges, browns & blues!

I went to a friend’s house for her granddaughter’s High School Graduation Celebration.  My friend, Mary, invited me into her garden, an English Garden and I had to sit, put my feet up and RELAX, it was so beautiful!

This sculpture is called INTERPLACE by Michael Szabo (2012). I walked by it each morning when I was out walking and it intrigued me.  This is another view of it.

Sculpture

I went walking each morning we were in Maryland, and of course, I had my camera across my shoulder as well as my iPhone in my hand.  I found this sculpture very interesting and took some photos of it.  It is called INTERPLACE by Michael Szabo (2012).  As I was walking back to our hotel I was stopped by a policeman and he asked me if I had been taking photos.  I told him I had and talked about the cool birds and sculpture I had seen.  He asked me if I had taken any photos of the buildings.  NOPE, HA! HA!  NSA was right across the street from our hotel.  I guess I looked like a spy!

Gorgeous Trees

On a recent trip to Maryland, I went for a walk each morning and I loved it as I walked thru a forest of trees.  Coming from a desert, this lush green really touched me!

We had a wonderful walk, it felt so good with the warm sun touching us.  As we turned a corner my grandson took off.  He was loving it, too!

Excitement

It is so fun to see the excitement and enthusiasm of a little one on a bike, even if the bike has training wheels, they are just as fun to watch!

Fun in the Rain

It was so fun watching our grandson in the rain.  It was coming down hard and he was loving every minute of it!  We couldn’t get him inside, but once the thunder started he came in.
